Graded electric guitar courses are available and range from preliminary level through to grade 8. These internationally

recognised courses are held throughout the year with an exam at the end of each grade. Each course is set over 10

weeks with a 2 hour class each week. The advanced grades (6-8) run in the same format but are 20 weeks in duration.

Each 2 hour class is divided into an hour of practical studies and an hour of music theory. During the course you will

have a short assessment and a mock exam to ensure you are fully prepared to take the exam. Each grade has an

exam book that you will need in order to complete the course.

The exams are usually conducted in March/April (spring), June/July (summer) and November/December (winter). Our

courses commence prior to these dates so that you may take the exam upon completion of the course. In order to take

 the exam you are required to complete your entry form which is located in the back of your exam book and submit

along with the exam fee by the entry date (see examination entry fees).

Supplementary books are available as a study aid for the main sections of each grade. These are not required but are

recommended as they are a good resource for preparing for the exam.

In order to find out which grade is appropriate for you to start with you are advised to book a free ½ hour session with us to discuss all the details. This will also include a brief assessment to make sure you are at the right ability level for your choice of grade.

If you feel you are not at the right level for your chosen grade we can offer individual lessons prior to the course to ensure you are at the correct level for the proposed grade. Alternatively you can book supplementary lessons during the course for extra study support if it is required.

As an alternative you can also work towards a grade by taking individual lessons. This allows you to be more flexible with your tuition especially if you are unable to commit to a 10 week course. This arrangement is designed to fit your commitments so that you can comfortably undertake a grade in your own time. Once you are ready to take you exam you will be entered into the next available exam period
